What Car Detailing Costs in San Antonio
Quotes for the same words — 'full detail' — routinely differ by several hundred dollars. Here is what is actually behind the number.

Detailing is priced by hours, not by menu item
Almost every honest detailing price reduces to time multiplied by skill multiplied by consumables. A wash is an hour. A thorough interior detail on a family SUV is four to six. A multi-stage paint correction with a coating is two days. When one quote is a third of another for the same named service, the difference is nearly always how many hours are budgeted.
This is why a fixed price given over the phone without any information about the vehicle should be treated cautiously. A two-year-old commuter sedan and a seven-year-old three-row SUV that has carried two kids and a dog are not the same job, whatever the menu calls them.
What actually moves the price
- **Vehicle size.** A full-size truck or three-row SUV has roughly twice the surface area of a compact sedan, inside and out.
- **Current condition.** This is the single biggest variable on interiors. Ground-in stains, spilled drinks, heavy pet hair and years of accumulated dust all add hours.
- **Paint condition.** Polishing time depends on how much defect there is and how hard the clear coat is. Some paint corrects in one pass; some needs three.
- **Materials.** A professional ceramic coating costs real money before anyone touches the car. Wax and sealant cost far less.
- **Access and conditions.** A shaded garage is faster and better than an open driveway at 3pm in August.
Rough ranges to calibrate expectations
Rather than publishing a fixed menu that would be wrong for half the vehicles that call, here is how the tiers relate to one another. A maintenance wash is the smallest job. A dedicated interior detail is typically several times that, because it is several times the labour. A full detail covering both sides of the vehicle is more again.
Paint correction sits in a different bracket entirely, because it is skilled machine work measured in days rather than hours, and a ceramic coating adds both material cost and the meticulous preparation the coating requires. A coating quoted at wash prices is not a coating worth having.
Why mobile is not automatically more expensive
Mobile detailing has no shop lease and no building overhead, which offsets the travel time. What you are paying for is the same labour delivered at your address, which also removes the hidden cost of your own time — the drive there, the wait or the ride home, and the drive back.
For most people in San Antonio, the round trip to a shop and back is over an hour of their day. That has a value even if it never appears on an invoice.
Getting a quote that holds
Tell us the year, make and model, describe the interior honestly, and mention anything unusual — pet hair, a spill, smoke, heavy water spotting, a repaint. Photos help enormously. With that, a quote given in advance rarely needs to change on arrival.

Common questions
- Why won't you give a flat price over the phone?
We will give a price — we just need to know what we are pricing. Vehicle size and current condition change the labour involved by hours.
- Is detailing cheaper than a car wash over time?
Per visit, no. Over years of ownership, maintained paint and interior meaningfully affect resale value and avoid correction costs later.
- Do you charge more for a very dirty car?
Yes, because it takes longer. We would rather tell you that upfront than surprise you on the day.
- Are there travel fees?
Not within our standard service area. If a location sits at the far edge of it we will say so when quoting.
