Full Car Detail in San Antonio
The complete reset: every interior surface cleaned in sequence, the exterior washed, decontaminated and protected, all done where the vehicle is already parked.

What a full detail actually means
A full detail is not a longer car wash. It is a two-part job — a complete interior detail and a complete exterior detail performed in the same appointment — with the interior handled first so exterior dust and rinse water never land on freshly cleaned carpets.
The point of doing both together is condition. Vehicles rarely decline on only one side. A commuter that has been baking in an open lot off Loop 1604 usually has sun-hazed plastics, dust in every seam, road film on the lower panels and a clear coat with no protection left on it. Fixing half of that leaves the vehicle looking half-finished.
A full detail is a reset, not a maintenance plan. Once the vehicle is back to a clean baseline, keeping it there is cheap — a hand wash every couple of weeks and a maintenance detail on a schedule costs far less than repeating a full reset twice a year.
What is typically included
Scope is set by the vehicle's condition, but a full detail generally covers the following work:
- Complete interior vacuum including under seats, seat rails, trunk or cargo area and the spare tire well
- Hot water extraction of carpets and cloth upholstery, or a pH-appropriate clean and condition on leather
- Hard surface cleaning of the dash, console, door cards, cupholders, vents and switchgear
- Interior and exterior glass cleaned to a streak-free finish
- Wheels, tires, wheel wells and exhaust tips cleaned before any paint work begins
- A controlled hand wash using clean media and separate rinse water
- Chemical decontamination and clay bar treatment where the paint still feels rough
- A protection step — wax, sealant, or a ceramic coating quoted separately
- Door jambs, fuel door and trim wiped down
Who a full detail is right for
Three situations account for most full details. The first is a vehicle that has never been detailed — often three to eight years old, washed occasionally at a tunnel, with an interior that has quietly absorbed years of use. The second is a lease return or private sale, where a few hundred dollars of cleaning changes what a buyer or an inspector sees. The third is a change in household circumstances: a new baby, a dog, a move, a long road trip.
If the vehicle is already clean and you simply want it sharper, a full detail is more than you need. In that case a wash and wax or a maintenance visit is the honest recommendation.
How long it takes and what we need from you
Most full details on a sedan run four to six hours. Larger vehicles, heavy pet hair, deep staining or neglected paint push that longer, and some vehicles are genuinely a two-visit job. We would rather tell you that in advance than rush the second half.
On site we need a parking space with room to open all four doors and walk around the vehicle, plus shade where possible. Working in direct San Antonio sun is not just uncomfortable — products flash off before they can be worked properly, so a covered space, a garage or an early start produces a better result. Full detail appointments in July and August are usually scheduled for the morning for that reason.

Realistic limits
A full detail cleans and protects. It does not repair. Torn upholstery, cracked dash panels, sun-split leather, deep scratches through the clear coat and hail damage are outside what cleaning can fix. Heat-baked stains that have permanently discolored fabric may lighten substantially without disappearing entirely, and we will say so before starting rather than after.
Paint defects are their own category. If the goal is removing swirl marks and restoring gloss, that is paint correction and it is quoted on top of the detail.
Common questions
- How much does a full detail cost in San Antonio?
Pricing depends on vehicle size and condition rather than a fixed menu price. A mid-size sedan in average shape sits at the lower end; a three-row SUV with pet hair and heavy staining sits well above it. Our detailing cost guide explains what drives the number, and a quote over the phone takes a few minutes.
- Do you need access to water and power?
Access to an outdoor spigot and a standard outlet makes the job easier, but tell us in advance if neither is available at your location and we will plan the appointment around it.
- Can you do a full detail in an apartment parking lot?
Often yes, provided the property allows it and there is a usable space. Some complexes restrict vehicle work in shared lots, so it is worth checking with management first. Read more on our service areas pages.
- Should I get paint correction at the same time?
If you are planning correction or a coating, doing it in the same window makes sense because the decontamination work overlaps. If you are unsure, we can assess the paint at the appointment and quote it then.
