Paint Decontamination in San Antonio

Dissolving the bonded iron, tar and fallout that washing leaves behind, so that polishing and protection work on genuinely clean paint.

Chemical versus mechanical decontamination

There are two ways to remove bonded contamination. Chemical decontamination uses iron-dissolving and solvent-based products that break particles down so they rinse away. Mechanical decontamination — clay treatment — physically shears off what remains.

Chemical comes first because it reduces the amount of physical contact needed, and less contact means less risk of marring. On a lightly contaminated car, chemical decon alone can be enough.

What is actually on the paint

Iron particles from brake dust and rail traffic embed in the clear coat and corrode, showing as tiny rust-colored specks most visible on white and silver vehicles. Tar collects along rocker panels and behind the wheels, especially after driving on freshly sealed roads in summer heat. Industrial fallout and overspray settle on horizontal surfaces on vehicles parked near active work sites.

Organic contamination — bug residue, tree sap, bird droppings — is its own category, and in Texas heat it is time-sensitive. Sap and droppings are acidic and can etch clear coat in hours on a hot panel, at which point removal becomes a polishing job rather than a cleaning job.

When decontamination is required

Always before applying a ceramic coating or a sealant, and before any paint correction — polishing over embedded grit drags it across the panel. It is also worth doing on its own once or twice a year on a vehicle that lives outdoors.

Common questions

Is decontamination safe on all paint?

The chemicals used are paint-safe when dwell times are respected and the surface is not allowed to dry. Products are chosen based on the finish and any existing protection.

Will it remove water spots?

Fresh mineral deposits often come off during decon. Etched spots that have bitten into the clear coat need water spot removal by polishing.

How do I know if my car needs it?

Wash the car and feel the paint. Roughness means contamination. Rust-colored specks on light paint mean embedded iron.
